What is an empty leg, exactly?
A flight an aircraft has to make without passengers, usually to get home or to its next job. Operators sell these one-way flights at a discount, often 25–75% off. The route and departure time are set by the original trip.
Can an empty leg be cancelled?
Yes. If the original trip moves or is cancelled, the empty leg can move or disappear with it. That is why empty legs suit flexible travellers, and why your advisor will tell you what a backup option would cost.
How flexible do I need to be?
Any flexibility helps. A day either side of your preferred date widens the choice of aircraft, and a week of flexibility makes empty legs realistic. Tell us your range in the request.
Are holiday dates more expensive?
Usually. Around holidays and big events more people want aircraft than there are nearby, so prices rise and operators may apply daily minimums or minimum days. Booking early, or shifting a day away from the peak, helps most.
How do deal alerts work?
Tell us the route, your dates and how flexible you are. When an empty leg, a quieter date or a better-placed aircraft fits your trip, your advisor emails it with an all-in price. There is no membership, deposit or sign-up.
Do deal prices include taxes and fees?
Yes. Quotes are all-in, including the 7.5% federal excise tax and segment fees on US domestic trips, and international fees where they apply.
Can I bring my dog?
Many operators happily take dogs and cats, as long as they approve them in advance. Mention yours in the request and we will only offer aircraft whose operators say yes.
Is a cheaper flight held to a lower standard?
No. Empty legs and quiet-week prices come from the same FAA Part 135 operators, aircraft and crews as any other trip. The discount reflects timing, not standards.
Do you own the aircraft?
Jet Deal Finder is an air charter broker and is not a direct air carrier. We do not own or operate aircraft; every flight is operated by an FAA Part 135 (or foreign equivalent) direct air carrier in operational control of the aircraft. Your quote names the operator before you book.
Can I book a one-way trip?
Yes. One-way, round-trip and multi-city trips are all possible, worldwide, and one-way trips are where empty legs help most.
What is a daily minimum?
Many operators bill a minimum of one to two flight hours for each day the aircraft is with you, even if you fly less. It mostly affects short trips and multi-day round trips, and your quote shows it where it applies.
What changes the price the most?
The size of the aircraft, where it is based, your dates and how long it waits for you. Repositioning, crew overnights and winter de-icing also play a part.
